    Exiting Your Alex Session

Registered users can enter their User names and Passwords in the boxes indicated and click login for immediate access.

Unregistered users should press help on this login screen to reach the registration form.

Click New to bring up the Alex new-user registration screen.

Enter the following information:

• your last name

• your first name

• a short username using letters and numbers with no spaces or punctuation

Because this username must be unique in the Alex database, it is not a good idea to use your first name alone. Note also that the file-naming protocol of The Alexandrian Authority™ will convert any alphabetic characters in your username to lowercase.

• your email address

• affiliation to business or other organization

• workday telephone number

After your user data is complete, click request to forward it to Alex. Your registration confirmation, your Alex-generated password, and a list of user groups to which you are assigned will be sent to the email address you specified. The Alexandrian Authority™ stores passwords in a one-way encrypted formula. Alex cannot decrypt to reveal the original password. Should you lose track of your password, request a new one from Alex by sending email to lost-passwords@alex.shiman.com. You can also change your password on Alex’s your user preferences screen discussed later in this document.

Exiting Your Alex Session

By clicking Alex's Logout tab, you will be logged off the system. When you next summon the site from your browser you will have to login again. This is the most secure way to use Alex.

If you do not formally log out but you do break the connection to the website, the next time you summon the site, the system will prompt you to either Resume Session or log in to a different session. In resuming a session, you will be returned to the very screen you were at when you left the application.
